I will be working on getting posts up over the next week sharing our curriculum choices for the 2016-2017 year for all the kids in our homeschool this year. In this post I am sharing our 3rd grade homeschool curriculum choices for the upcoming year.
Last year we graduated our first homeschool kiddo, so this year we are down to 5 kids in our homeschool. We also fit in competitive gymnastics for 3 of the kids, therapy for a couple special needs kids, regular doctor appointment, and everything else life throws our way. On top of all of that I am babysitting a 5 month old full time, you know just to add a little bit of extra fun to our days 😀 !
Starting September 5th you can head over for the 8th annual Back To School Blog hop and check out the curriculum choices for tons of homeschoolers as well. It’s a great place to see how fellow homeschoolers schedule their year and meet new homeschool moms. Each week is a different theme, so make sure to check it out each week!
I want to say that we do not choose all the same curriculum for each of our kids. We plan our school years according to what would be best for each of them, and that is usually different from the kiddo before except a few subjects. I also want to say our homeschool probably looks very different from other homeschoolers, and that is just fine. Each family needs to do what is best for them and that is one of the reasons homeschooling your kids is so great. I am not here to judge or say our way is the best way, I am just sharing what is working for us for this year and hope it helps some other homeschool moms.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask below in the comment section and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
3rd Grade Homeschool Curriculum Choices
Math: Math-U-See ~ Gamma ~ WE LOVE Math-U-See and will continue to use it every year for all of our kids. Since this is the only math program that Ethan and Gabe have used they are further ahead in the program then the older boys. Both of them are very efficient in math from using this great program. Stop over to the REVIEW we did of the program to read more about our thoughts.
English: Learning Language Arts Through Literature ~ Yellow. This will be our second year using Learning gLanguage Arts Through literature program. We are loving the program!! It has many classes rolled into 1 class and uses well known literature as the base for kids.
Spelling: All About Spelling Level 3 ~ We have used All About Learning press for our spelling and reading of our youngest 2 kids since level 1. I cannot say enough good things about their programs. They give you clear and short directions for teaching both reading and spelling. The kids pick up on the concepts no matter what type of reader they are. I would HIGHLY recommend this program to anyone looking for a good reading or spelling program for their kids!!
Reading: All About Reading Level 3 ~ See above recommendations of this program in Spelling!
Handwriting: A Reason For Handwriting ~ Book D ~ We are trying cursive this year for Ethan. To be honest I’m not sure how this is going to work. His penmanship is not very good do to the fact that his fine motor skills just do not seem to improve any more then they have. I discussed this with his OT who he meets with every week for the last 3 years and her response was, for some kids it is better just to teach them how to type things out… So we will start this program this year but may just stop it if it doesn’t seem to be worth our time.
Handicrafts: This will be something we will do as a group, I’m hoping for 1 project every month to start out with. If we have time to do them weekly then that is what we will do.
History / Geography / Bible: Simply Charlotte Mason ~ This is our second year using Simply Charlotte Mason as a group class we have really loved using it and will continue it this year. In this class we will be working with Cody, Anthony, and Ethan. Gabe is a little younger and can choose to join in with us or not.
Bible: Studying bible history of Joshua through Malachi. Work on several studies in Provers working on a 4 year project of looking for doctrinal truths while reading through the bible.
History: History of Ancient Greece aligning with the Old Testament timeline
Geography: Locate regions we read about and a modern-day look at the Middle East
