2nd Grade Curriculum Choices 2015-2016

I have already shared our group classes for the year, so now I am getting into each of the kids individual classes. Each year we tailor each of the kids curriculum to what is best for them, since we have special needs kids that struggle in some areas and are highly gifted in other areas this is such a blessing for them. Today I am giving you a look into Ethan’s 2nd grade curriculum. On top of what he is doing listed here, he also still participates in our Mother Goose Time curriculum, because he chooses to. Ethan is our Continue Reading…

Friends & Feelings

Lessons In Friendship

This months Mother Goose Time topic is Friends and feelings. We have had a great time doing this unit, understanding feelings is something that Ethan struggles with daily so the more we work on it the better he will get. We use the Zones of Regulation to help keep his feelings at a manageable levels to get him through out the day. If you are interested in seeing what is included with the monthly shipments from Mother Goose Time stop over and see our first introductory post. We have done many great things this month while learning about friends and Continue Reading…

Tips For Keeping Wiggly Kids Focused

We have a couple boys in our homeschool that just struggle to sit still. One of them has started growing out of the hyperactivity from his ADHD, but still can really struggle sitting still occasionally. He has done really well with a very active and physically demanding job (gymnastics coach.) When he was younger though, he had to constantly be doing something during seat work to keep his hands or feet busy. The other one only has a short period of time he is able to sit still every day, if I have to teach him outside of that timeframe I Continue Reading…

A disease that has a special place in our every day lives. We have 2 children that are on the Autism spectrum thankfully both of them are high functioning. 1 of them has received a diagnosis, the other one we know that he has it but we have not gone in for testing for the official diagnosis. We have one of our Autistic kiddos that is on the very low end and doesn’t like to do much talking or do much work at all which is slowly getting Continue Reading…

Nighttime Bedwetting Twitter Party #TRUEFITWALMART

Each child potty trains differently some are quick and others are just not ready. With Ethan, he was a very late potty trainer he just didn’t have the ability to use the bathroom till a much later age then his siblings. To this day he still has problems with nighttime bedwetting. Because we have never experienced this with any of our other kids, I wasn’t aware of the fact that many of the products that are out there are ok for younger kids but not so much the older ones. It’s because older kids wet more then younger ones most Continue Reading…

Teaching Self Regulation and Emotional Control ~ The Zones Of Regulation

I was provided with a copy of The Zones Of Regulation for review purposes. All opinions expressed are the honest opinions of my children or myself. Please read my Disclosure Policy for more information. Think of when your child was young and they walked up to a person or animal for the first time and hurt them, as a parent you gently explain to them that it hurt the person/animal and show them how to gently touch. Repeat a few more times (or a lot) and eventually they don’t do it anymore. As a parent what do you do when they don’t ever Continue Reading…

Childhood Illness, RA, 12 Appointments in 1 Week, and More…

Life had got the best of me since we went on vacation back at the end of August, and because of it my blog has really suffered. I figured it was about time for an update as to what is going on around here. There is a LOT which is why I haven’t posted in quite a while. We are in the process of figuring out a HUGE health scare for Ethan,  just last week we had 12 appointments to go to in only 5 days!! Anthony has a cast and he also has had surgery. I have a bunch Continue Reading…

Logic Of English ~Foundations A ~ Schoolhouse Review Crew #hsreview

When we first received this program I wasn’t sure how well it was going to work for Ethan but I was hopeful since they offer a multi-sensory program that teaches handwriting, phonics, reading, and spelling. He is my kiddo that just can’t sit still due to sensory issues and getting him to sit and work on just about anything can be really trying and difficult some days. I have really struggled finding a program for him that will teach him the concepts he needs to learn while adding enough multi-sensory learning to keep him engaged. I have been pleasently surprised Continue Reading…
