Lately In Our Life
The last 2 weeks have been an absolute whirlwind of amazing adventures. My daughter and I spent just over 2 weeks in Australia. Despite the long and grueling 26 hour flight and the 14 hour time change there and then again back we loved it.
The first week we spent along the western coast of Australia. Starting in the north around Cairns we took trips all the way north to Cape Tribulation while in Cairns. We visited the Great Barrier Reef and spent a day in the Daintree Rainforest. My daughter drove us from Cairns to Airlie Beach which was supposed to be about an 8 hour drive, but turned out to be about a 10 hour drive.
While in Airlie Beach we spent time on the well know Whitehaven beach in the Whitsundays as well as Hamilton Island. The next day we took an airplane ride over the Whitsundays including the #1 most photographed beach hill inlet and the Great Barrier Reef including heart reef. It was absoutely amazing!
Next we headed down to Brisbane and spent a couple days there. One of the days we took a boat out to watch the humpback whales migrating with their calves. Following that we spent some time on Moerton Island at Tangalooma Resort and heard the frist call of the Kookabura that is something else!! We watched the local wild dolphins come in to be fed for the night and then headed back to our hotel.
We flew back to Melborne and headed right out to the Great Ocean Road. Which we split up into 3 days. That whole coast line was absolutely gorgeous. The cliffs, wildlife, and rock formations are amazing. This is where we spotted our first koalas, and in the wild at that.
Next we drove back and stayed in Melbourne the last couple days and spent a day on Phillip Island. We were able to see chocolate wallabies, the second largest kangaroos, koalas, and more. In the evening we were able to watch the Ferry Penguins make their famous journey back to their burrows. They are the smallest penguins at only 10″. We were not allowed to take any videos or photos of them since their eyes are very sensitive. It was an amazing experience!
I hope to share about the trip on my blog, but we will see how that all works out. We sure learned so much about Australia while we were there, as well as tips and ideas for American’s traveling to Australia and great places to visit.
We have been home just less then a week now and I’m just about completely adjusted to the 14 hour time difference, my daughter however, is still working on it. Next week we are starting back to doing our school so I will post about that update for the next party!
