The cool and crisp days of fall are upon us, when we pull out the sweatshirts, sweaters, and celebrate the year’s harvest. It is the time of year when we eat lots of pumpkin recipes and carve pumpkins. The pumpkin industry in the USA brings in $141 million dollars every year which equates to about 1.1 billion pounds of pumpkins.
Pumpkin recipes have been made for many, many years around the world not only for food but for medicine too. Colonists would cut the tops off of the pumpkins, scrape out the seeds and fill the pumpkins with milk, spices, and honey then cook them over hot ashes.
In colonial times they used pumpkin to make their pie crusts not the filling. Pumpkins have even been used for the removal of freckles and to heal snake bites. They are a fruit that belong to the same family as squash and cucumber, and they consist of 90% water.
With fall upon us there is a ton of pumpkin recipes floating around the web. So what better thing to do but to put them all together in 1 post not only for everyone but for myself too.
