ARTistic Pursuits is an award winning, comprehensive, art program that helps parents teach art and drawing to their children. They have recently put out their 3rd editions guides, which has added features that will offer art instruction specific to art materials and techniques that are used by real artists.
The Artistic Pursuits Middle School 6-8 Book 1: The Elements of Art and Composition is for students 11+ year olds, it teaches students many art techniques that are needed for learning to make great drawings. In the 68 lessons they include information about different artists, over 175 pictures,  and even art history!

Your child will be able to independently complete this program, even without you or your child having any prior knowledge of art. Each of the lessons really make it make it easy for your child to apply the class to their own environments and make some beautiful drawings using items from around your house. The book has beautiful color pictures, great layout easy for kids to follow, and full instruction step by step with pictures to guide you along the way.
Below is the lesson page for lesson 2. As you can see the pictures are beautiful and colorful, each of the lessons contain a full color picture and then contains step by step picture and written directions for your student to follow, making it great and easy to follow for all kids!

What Did We Think Of Artistic Pursuits Elements of Art and Composition?
Dustin has been using Artistic Pursuits Middle School 6-8 Book 1: The Element of Art and Composition for just over 6 weeks and using it 3 days a week as a full art curriculum. I have been amazed at the drawings he has done since using Artistic Pursuits, his drawing are showing so much more detail, he has started adding texture and depth to many different things now making his drawings look so much more realistic!
I am very pleased with how well the program is laid out making it a program he can really do independently and still understand the concepts being taught. The program walks students through step by step how to do each of the lessons in such a complete way that he hasn’t needed help from me to do  a single one of his lessons so far. He is excited to do art every day and there hasn’t been a week so far he hasn’t asked if it was OK for him to do a lesson on his day off from the class. He is learning real drawing techniques and how to apply them to be used on materials from his own environment, helping him apply the techniques to other drawings he makes for other classes.
Overall I would highly recommend Artistic Pursuits to all parents/ teachers looking for any type art or drawing class for children/ students, they offer classes for many age levels on quite a few different techniques. This program is comparable to a real art class one you would pay a ton of money for, and is offered at just a fraction of the cost. The program is complete enough to be used as a full art curriculum or as a supplement to your current curriculum.
