BIg Family Management

We are entering our 17th year of homeschooling. During this time, as I'm sure you can imagine, I have learned SO many things. We have graduated 3 kiddos using a more eclectic style. I have been able to pick the best curriculum or programs for each child. I can teach children of just about any age. I'm also the one that gets to decide...

If there is anything I know I am regularly looking for as a mom of many, it is not only healthy but also quick meal ideas. Between having 6 kids of my own and then adding some days 8 daycare kids in the mix some nights I can plan to have a monthly freezer meal to make, but some nights for one reason or...

Over in the Sonlight Facebook page, I have often seen people asking how people can balance a job and homeschool their children. While I realize that it can be challenging, it isn't quite as hard of a task to do as you might imagine. I have been running a daycare for many months now, and homeschooling our 5 children. Let me tell you it is...

When you have a big family working on the logistics of your homeschool is pretty important. We have used many different homeschool curriculums over the years. Grouping as many of the kids together is something that we found out is really important to our homeschool running smoothly...  Well and also to keep my sanity. Which means many of those curriculums we have tried over...

One of our favorite appliances in our big family is our crockpot!! Hands down our favorite, our dishwasher comes in a case second though. I love that I can just dump food into the crockpot in the morning and finally have a delicious and healthy meal ready to go at dinnertime. It seems like it couldn't get much easier than that! Another great thing about...

There has been quite a bit of interest in how we manage to feed our large family of 8 for less then $200 a week eating mostly organic. I mean can you imagine how much our family eats, we have almost 4 teenagers that work out in the gym at least 3 days a week. 2 of them work many hours during the week,...

We do let our kids have a small amount of screen time every day, but essentially we keep it to a minimum and have lots of screen free activities for the kids to do. There are some exceptions to the rule if someone has had a surgery and needs bedrest, if mom is sick, etc. Sometimes it can be a challenge keeping kids busy...

In our house we eat a ton of soup recipes, especially during the fall and winter months. They are a great and inexpensive way to feed our big family. Most soup nights our huge crock pot is empty by the time that dinner is done now a days. Let me tell you having teenage boys who workout at the gym regularly, boy can they...

Today I'm sharing easy and delicious crock pot breakfast and dessert recipes. I haven't used my crock for desserts before, but it would be so much easier to just dump the ingredients into the crock pot and have a delicious dessert ready at dinner time. I am not a morning person, so I have taught the kids to make their own breakfast and unless it...

Dinnertime used to be a struggle in our house. Getting food on the table during the "witching hour", after homeschooling and everything else that needs to be done around our house was hard. Things were a struggle until we started making monthly crock pot recipes and freezing them. Now I pull out dinner the night before, put it into the crock pot in the morning, and...

So I have already given you a tour of where we do our school each day, and a look into what curriculum we use in our homeschool. Today I am going to give you a look into our homeschool library. I have to admit that this is one area I have a little bit of an obsession  😉 ! You see I cannot pass up...

This easy to use and mobile Lego storage idea has been a wonderful way to store our many Lego's.
