Every year I work with the kids to make some easy DIY Christmas crafts for kids but one of our favorite things to make are Christmas ornaments. We hand them out to family and hand some on our tree every year. When we decorate the tree every year, it is so fun to talk about the memories made making each of them. They also make perfect gifts for family, we have so many DIY ornament crafts hanging on our tree I love it!
I have been working on putting together some cute Christmas crafts for kids to share with you. Some of these are super easy to do and others are a little more difficult . That way both younger and older kids will have some really great Christmas crafts for kids ideas.

Wood Slice Christmas Craft For Kids
There are so many different things you can add to wood slices to make adorable ornaments they make perfect Christmas crafts for kids. For the ornaments we made we used
- Wood Slices
- Fine tip permanent markers
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brushes of different sizes
- Drill with small drill bit (optional)
- Twine (we used red and white or green and white for Christmas colors)
For some of the ornaments we used a cookie cutter to make the outline. Designing each of the ornaments is pretty self explanatory. For more ideas on what to decorate on a wood slice head over to Pinterest there are so many great ideas on there.
Chalkboard Ornaments For Kids
These little chalkboards are perfect ornaments. They even have twine already put onto them so you don’t have to worry about adding it. The younger kids who made these ornaments just used glitter glue and really had fun making them. For the older kids they added the scrabble letter tiles or spelling words with the glitter glue.
Christmas Suncatchers
These are super fun for kids to make and are easy. All you need is the Merry Christmas suncatchers offered at Oriental Trading Company and the suncatcher paint kit they offer. Great thing is that you can reuse the paint to make different suncatchers all year round!

Have some washi tape and ornaments around? Then you can make these super easy. Just put tape around a clear plastic ornament and cut off when you are satisfied with how it looks. This is great fine motor practice for kids.

Filled Ornaments Christmas Craft For Kids
This was one of my kids favorite ornaments to make. The older and younger kids had a great time making them. The plastic clear ornaments from Oriental Trading COmpany split in half instead of just the top coming off like normal clear ornaments. So you can open them up and then fill them with all sorts of Christmas goodies. Including jingle bells which make them make great noises. Make sure to use some tape or washi tape to close the opening shut so it doesn’t break open and spill everywhere. My kids also enjoyed decorating the outside of the ornaments with Christmas themed rhinestones. Tie a string onto them for a cute Christmas necklace, or a shorter string to hang on the tree.
- Clear plastic ornaments
- Mini Christmas Erasers
- Christmas jingle bells
- Christmas Confetti
- Washi tape ~ red set or green set /Â or clear tape
- Green and White twine
- Christmas rhinestones
- Mini wreaths
