Using Home School in the Woods is an amazing family learning program that has been a wonderful way to encourage interest in the study of world history. I’ve even found that no matter what lessons are being taught, I’m right there with the kids learning along as well!
I’m a big believer in the fact that hands-on learning for American History are key so this is why we chose to be time travelers and dive back into history from the 19th century. I love adding in units like this and putting together our own history curriculum, or as a supplement to our existing curriculum. We have done such units both ways and they are so much fun for learning more about a particular time period.
Once we realized that we could fill all of our brains with knowledge and learning due to the ease of the lessons offered by Home School in the Woods, we knew that we’d found a great homeschool learning program that fit the bill to what we needed and craved.

Learning about World History for Elementary School and Middle School Learners
It’s safe to say that we’ve taken a lot of various online courses and learning options since we’ve homeschooled for many, many years.
What we love about our experience with Home School in the Woods is that they have a wide variety of courses and offerings that are unique to what other online options offer.
We choose to dive into Time Traveler: The Early 19th Century and were amazed at all the information that we learned.
Not only were we able to learn by reading great information and facts, but we enjoyed the worksheets and projects as well. I loved that there are many different subjects included in each unit. They offer handwriting, history, timelines, vocabulary, and more.
Oh, yeah they also include lapbook learning. My kids have thoroughly enjoyed using lapbooks over the years. We love putting them together as well as pulling them back out years later and going over them again.
If you’re looking for a way to increase the historical knowledge in your home, Time Traveler needs to be high up on your radar.
Why Hands On History is Important
One of the biggest reasons that we really enjoyed this lesson and course is because as we traveled through history and learned about the times, there were so many great hands on activities that we could do as well.
Since all of our kids learn in different ways, having the hands on approach to help them understand and remember different times in history was exactly the difference that we were looking for.
Anybody can set and read words off pages to learn but once you add in activities that are geared towards that timeframe, it’s a whole new ballgame when it comes to learning.
