This months Mother Goose Time topic is Friends and feelings. We have had a great time doing this unit, understanding feelings is something that Ethan struggles with daily so the more we work on it the better he will get. We use the Zones of Regulation to help keep his feelings at a manageable levels to get him through out the day. We have done many great things this month while learning about friends and feelings. Today I am going to be sharing 3 different activities we did through out the month using our Mother Goose Time Curriculum.
On our first day we talked about saying Hello to people. In order to play this out the kids each made 2 puppets (1 of a friend and 1 of them.) We also sang the opening song a second time with our puppets. This day we also did a name dance, learned about global friends, and played a game using 1 of our monthly manipulatives which are colored school bus counters.
The boys really had a great time playing with their puppets, and they have played with them over and over since they have made them.
Circle of Friends Hat
While learning how to be a good friend the kids made a circle of friends hat. They colored the puzzle friends pieces, and attached them to their headbands and then fit them onto their head. After we got in a circle holding hands and talked about the ways we could be a good friend using the words on our puzzle friends.
We read our Mother Goose Time story for the month which is At the Playground. This story was teaching kids how to solve problems! We worked on the letter “F” and worked together to build the “tallest” tower using wooden blocks.
We talked about the beads being like our friends and family, and include everyone in our circle of friendship. I just love the great lessons Mother Goose Time includes and the values that they teach kids!
The kids worked on a word family game to help that worked on what to do if you see a friend feeling lonely, and made a friendship train using links.
On top of the great values they include, there are so many great chances to practice both fine and gross motor skills for kids.
There was a look into just some of the fun we have had this month exploring friends and feelings. Next months topic is At The Orchard, which will fit perfectly in with our annual trip to the apple orchard!
