Thank you for sharing!!

I was recently contacted by Youth Digital asking to host a giveaway of their #1 course, Mod Design 1. In the course your child will learn how to make their own modifications (mods) to their PC/Mac version of Minecraft® using Java Programing. This includes swords, block, creature, biomes, and more. The recommended age group for the course is 8-14.

I was very exciting to see that their Mod Design 1 course (aff. Link) is available for the Mac!! If you read my review of the 3D Game Design 1, we used a virtual machine on our iMac for Cody to be able to use the program because we only own Mac computers. Youth Digital left a comment to the review, letting me know they would soon have a version available for the Mac. So I was very happy to see that the Mod Design course is available for Mac and Windows computers!

I can say from experience that the instructors actually interact with the students. Not only do they promptly answer any questions the students might have, but they go above and beyond to help them. For example Cody has been working very hard at creating his own game for a few months, when he finally had it finished he sent it over to his instructor to look at. Not only did the instructor look over his game, he added wonderful things to it that Cody wouldn’t have been able to add.

How do the programs work at Youth Digital? Students follow along on the video lessons, these lessons are not like normal video lessons. They get students working along on the concepts using interactive tasks that teach them the concepts needed. Along the way, students will

  • Complete quizzes and earn points that can be used for awards and prizes for use in their program.
  • Earn badges showing their accomplishments.
  • Complete troubleshooting challenges to help them learn how to fix potential problems that go along with the concepts taught in the lessons.

By the end of the Mod Design 1 course, students will have a fully functional Mod. Your child will design and then code the entire thing using Java Programing!

  1. I have to tell you my daughter loves Youth Digital products. She started with Game Design 1 then she asked for Game Design 2. Now she is finishing up Mod Design and is starting to beg for their 3D Animation course. The video teachers are so engaging and fun that even I, a programmer gets sucked in.

    • Nita,
Thanks for leaving a comment! I have to agree, Youth Digital definitely knew what they were doing when they made these courses up for sure, kids and parents love them! The video classes are great for kids and even parents for sure. I’m glad to hear you had just as good of an experience as we have.

We will me looking into further courses in the future for sure. We have only used the 3D Animation course so far, but it has been an amazing program I’m sure your child will love it just as much as the other courses!

Hope you have a great week!

  2. I would love to win this for my 8 year old son, James. He’s a Minecraft fanatic and has been wanting to make mods for over a year now. Thanks for the giveaway!

  3. I would love to win this for my second youngest granddaughter who is a whiz on the computer and loves Minecraft. This would be her desired Christmas present.

  4. This is for my 8 year old daughter. She loves playing minecraft and has played since she was 5. She’s homeschooled and she learned most of her reading skills through playing minecraft. She wants to create her own mod and also run her own server. Seeing how this program teaches java I’m all for it. She’s definitely in line for a technical computer career when she gets older. This program will help to fulfill that goal.
