Practical Life: Woodworking For Kids

Ethan is one of my kiddos that really enjoys anything hands on and working with wood has been no exception, he still loves his hand held drill that he is allowed to use with supervision and scraps of wood Jake sets aside from previous projects for the boys. Woodworking with kids is something I try to teach all of my kids!
Ethan has been having fun using small pieces of wood we have to make his own creations, he found the wood in the garage and just kept going back for more pieces and coming up with new things to make. It kept him busy for quite a while! I’m sure Jake making thing from wood has something to do with this new interest 🙂
Here are his creations. He made a house, 2 letter “E’s”, and a flag, the older boys helped him in the end use the hot glue gun because the elmers glue didn’t hold the pieces together very good.

  2. What fantastic ideas! I have pictures from my Mother In Law of my husband when he was under 6 years old building towns and bridges like this. He grew up to be a Civil Engineer so he no longer builds buildings with his hands but has a major role in the process. Your son is so creative, I love it! Thanks for linking up this week to my Enchanted Thursdays Blog Hop!

    • I could totally see Ethan being happy for the rest of his life building things! Thanks so much for your kind words and stopping by!!! Have a wonderful weekend!!

  3. Wonderful idea. I need to find some of those scraps of wood for my son would love them. He is currently working on making a small outdoor table. He decided to put some scrap wood together and then is placing it on a milk crate. I love watching him use the tools and the pride on his face when he is done.

    • They were very easy to cut, my hubby cut a strip out of a large board and then cut the strip into small square pieces, they have been very loved and I often catching him sneaking into the garage to get more and then looking at me and saying “mom can I take these” I love it! Milk crates would be a great little table! Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope you have a great week!!

  4. That is so cute and so worthwhile for kids. My 7 year old has recently taken an interest in little projects from Michael’s that he can easily put together with glue and he loves it.
